Just curious to see if anyone here has imported a GTIR from Canada to the States. I heard it was a way better move than importing from Japan if you wanted to save money.
Questions:
How much money would it be to import it? (Me driving the car back)
What kind of paperwork will I need to bring with me before I even fly Ito Canada?
Attaching plates? Would that be legal in Canada?

Importing from Canada to The States. Questions
Its pretty hardcore for you guys to bring cars in. I drove across the border once in my car to go to a hockey game. I got detained and searched and they were convined I was trying to import the car and sell it...
I really think you should put the car on a trailer and tow it back to prevent problems at the border.
as for the paper works you should read this : http://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/importing-car
Holy crap man
I've brought a couple cars over the boarder. If it's over 25 it's a walk in the park, under a whole other ball game. My last car I brought over was a GTIR shell. Just the body and they just about took it away. They did let me keep it under the assumption that I wouldnt lisence it. It has another 2 years to go...
It's best to wait a couple years and buy a 25 year car and do it that way.

Oh yeah, you would want to take a trailer to bring it home. The taxes with importing is not that bad. Comes out to about 7%, depending on the state you import into. Pretty much just read up on the import laws, they are pretty simple for the most part, if it's 25.

No problem but don't forget this is only for the federal side.
